Below is the 2014 Fall electro-shocking of the fish done by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (D.E.C.) which is a indicator of the numbers and sizes of the Fishery here on Lake Chautauqua. Fortunately, New York State spends monies on Stocking, Monitoring and Policing Lake Chautauqua’s Fishery.
I am awaiting any day, the 2015 Fall electro-shocking results and will update this post here.
March 7th, 2014. I spoke with Mike Clancy, our Region # 9 Fisheries person in charge of Chautauqua Lake’s Fishery,at the WNY Sport & Travel Expo. This was the first time I met Mike in person and what a nice guy representing the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (D.E.C.) Adding to the NYS D.E.C.’s Fall Fish Survey results below for Chautauqua Lake… Mike said, in so many words … That due to last Winter’s heavy Ice coverage and length of coverage that the Walleye spawning hatched a record year in Chautauqua Lake, across New York State and the North Eastern USA. That this year expects to be very very good for Walleye fishing on Chautauqua Lake, so good that they will probably raise the limit back to 15″ and five a day sooner versus later. I said, “can’t you wait a year or two please” and Mike said no because it will decimate the Pan Fishing. Reason # 007 why I am not making fishery decisions. But what Great News on Chautauqua Lake’s Walleye comeback…
